History of the Cottage
The cottages were built in 1795, at the time of the French Revolutionary Wars.
Garden Cottage -was the home of the Robertsons, a family of mariners, for 70 years. The Blacksmith’s cottage with the cobble yard in front was the home and Blacksmith’s Shop of the Mackie family.
Anna and Catherine Wood bought both cottages in 1864 to accommodate a growing community of Wood women and their staff and converted the blacksmith’s cottage into a stable and carriage house.
